How bone inlay furniture is made

Camel bone is harvested harmlessly and hand planed into flat pieces, which are then carved using knives by the skilled workers, who learn their handicrafts from masters and in academies.

These ornate pieces are then carefully laid onto finely crafted, hard wood furniture with glue and the gaps are filled with a resin made from a composite material, which is hand dyed, to create a colour stain. The piece is sanded smooth and level for a seamless finish and careful attention is paid to the border detail at the edges, so that each piece of bone inlay is painstakingly aligned for a neat finish.

We offer bespoke Indian furniture and Indian inlay mirrors can be made to any measurement. You are welcome to request a different colour, or even a different material; our mother of pearl inlay costs just a little more but offers a shimmering aesthetic with a striking play of iridescent light.
